[Prediction using OCCULT software]

Goffin's prediction suggests a path crossing western Java (Indonesia), the Kimberley district of Western Australia, central Northern Territory through to south-eastern Queensland. The OCCULT generated path is very similar - around a half a path width (perhaps 0.1") to the south passing between Maryborough and the Sunshine Coast in south-eastern Queensland at basically the same time as predicted by Goffin.

This prediction update is supplied by Jan Manek of the Stefanik Observatory, Prague, and is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the minor planet and the TAC star position.

Summary:

This calculation gives no path shift with occultation time ~0.4 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

Path for this event runs over western Java (Indonesia) at ~18:49 UT, north of Western Australia ~18:51 UT, Northern Territory ~18:52 UT and Queensland at ~18:54-18:55 UT with path running between Brisbane and Bundaberg.

Astrometric updates such as these should not be taken as definitive, but rather only as an indication of where the true track may lie relative to the original predicted track. Observers must bear in mind that later astrometry, in which the target star is measured in the same field as the asteroid, may still reveal substantial changes to the predicted track and time of the event. For this reason it is most important that observers far from the predicted track still monitor the event.
