ASTROMETRIC UPDATE:
OCCULTATION BY (260) HUBERTA - 2001 NOVEMBER 19

[Prediction by Edwin Goffin]

[Prediction using OCCULT software]

The prediction given by Goffin runs from near Geraldton on the Western Australian coastline northeast to the Ingham area on the north Queensland coastline. The path given by Occult lies around 4 path widths to the north running from Carnarvon, past Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to the north of Cairns on the north Queensland coast.

UPDATE: 14 November 2001

THE UPDATED PATH

Huberta Update

This updated path lies around one path width to the north of that given by Goffin and around 30 seconds later. The path runs just to the north of Geraldton just on local sunset at 10:59 UT. Further east, the path passes just south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory at 11:01 UT before passing over Cairns on the north Queensland coast at 11:02:30 UT.

Calculation Source

This prediction update has been computed by Steve Preston, Medina (Seattle), Washington, USA based on astrometry from Ron Stone of the US Naval Observatory - Flagstaff Station supplemented with data from the AstDys database. The UCAC position of the target star has been used.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Astrometric updates such as these should not be taken as definitive, but rather only as an indication of where the true track may lie relative to the original predicted track. Observers must bear in mind that later astrometry, in which the target star is measured in the same field as the asteroid, may still reveal substantial changes to the predicted track and time of the event. For this reason it is most important that observers far from the predicted track still monitor the event.
