Dike occultation - 20090908 September 08

Discussion:

The circle above is plotted at the expected 82 km diameter of Dike. With only one chord it is not possible to determine whether Dave was north or south of the central line of the event.

The figure below shows the light curve of the occultation.

Dike occultation - 20090908 September 08

There is a hint of a step in the D above and the specials catalogs list the star as double.

I (jt) agree that the D looks stepped (frames 395-397) but there is as similar level dimming at 367-369 which makes me suspect noise. 397 looks dimmer than 369 though Limovie measures it brighter. This also suggests noise. If the step was more than just the 3 points I might feel more inclined to say double. For the R there is an apparent brightening at 530 but there is no corresponding star image in the frame just a noise smear. At 533 there is a star image that Limovie measures dimmer than 530. At 542 the star image is barely visible but Limovie measures it almost the same as 565 which has clear bright star image. Again I don’t think I am seeing reliable double symptoms.

Looking at the Google Sky image for the star there is a suggestion of double diffraction spikes N-S that support the double possibility.

As the Scottish courts would say "Not Proven".

Had there been more positives that had similar symptoms we might have been able to assert another double observation.
