OCCULTATION OF TYC 7892-00575 BY 617 Patroclus-Menoetius
2010 August 26

The event had been widely pubicised and 11 stations had registered on Occult Watcher plus at least 3 others were ready to attempt the event. In the end 6 clearly observed misses were recorded. The rest were mainly clouded out and 1 was 5 minutes late finding the field.

View the updated prediction.

The prediction is somewhat misleading as 617 Patroclus-Menoetius is a binary pair with separation of about 600 km and the predcition does not take into account the mutual effects.

Patroclus-Menoetius occultation - 2010 August 26

Discussion:

The circle above is plotted at the expected 140 km diameter of Patroclus-Menoetius. With no positive chords we cannot say where the actual path was, so the circle has been plotted on the predicted path. There is another opportunity for NZ observers to try for this pair on Sat 2 October at about 12:00 UTC.
