Klytia occultation - 2011 July 02

Discussion: The ellipse above is plotted at the maximum axis ratio as determined by lightcurve inversion data and with the same area as the predicted circle of 44 km. With only one chord it is not possible to determine whether Brian was north or south of the central line of the event. However, assuming the updated prediction was approximately correct the longer than expected chord of about 58km would suggest that the chord might lie close to the central portion of the asteroid.

In the following inversion model graphics there are two DAMIT 3D models and one AMU ISAM model for the time of observation. These have been overlaid on the measured ellipse and show reasonable fit. Since we have only one chord, we dont actually know the chord position and as the inversion models do not have a size parameter, just a shape, the longest chord has been chosen in each case. This shows how much more valuable even one more chord would have been in resolving which view is the best fit.
