1992QH Update Map


On 2012 Nov 02 UT, the 15 km diameter asteroid (5358) 1992 QH will occult a 10.1 mag star in the constellation Auriga for observers along a quite narrow but uncertain south-to-north path at low altitude passing near Townsville in Queensland, and later over Papua New Guinea.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 5.1 mag to 15.2 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 3.6 seconds.

This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
