On 2020 May 16 UT, the 112.3 km diameter asteroid (490) Veritas will occult a 10.8 mag star in the constellation Aquila for observers along a path across Australia, from Mt Gambier and Adelaide (in morning twilight) across South Australia and eastern Western Australia to near Derby.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.94 mag to 13.65 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 29.5 seconds.

This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Hugh Harris, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by the IAU Minor Planet Center.
