Happelia Update Map


On 2022 Mar 22 UT, the 68.2 km diameter asteroid (578) Happelia will occult a 9.4 mag star in the constellation Virgo for observers along a path across Australia, from a little north of Kalbarri across central Western Australia and into northern South Australia in morning twilight.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 4.05 mag to 13.38 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 6.810 seconds.

This update is based on, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by the IAU Minor Planet Center.
