Panopaea Update Map


On 2022 May 22 UT, the 134.8 km diameter asteroid (70) Panopaea will occult a 9.5 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius for observers along a fairly broad path across Australia from Gladstone across southern Queensland, northern South Australia and into mid-southern Western Australia at low and decreasing elevation.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.09 mag to 11.41 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 20.810 seconds.

This update is based on, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by the IAU Minor Planet Center.
