BRIGHT STARS OCCULTED BY THE MOON:
NEW ZEALAND - 2008

EXPLANATION OF THE TABLE
Date :
Universal Time (UT). UT is effectively equivalent to Greenwich Mean Time. In New Zealand, add 12 hours to UT to get NZ Standard Time, or add 13 hours to get NZ Daylight Time (Before April 6 and after September 29 in 2008).
ZC :
Star number in Robertson's Zodiacal Catalog, unless shown as S or X.
Mag :
Star Magnitude. "V" indicates that the star is slightly variable.
Ev :
Event, either a Disappearance of the star behind the edge of the Moon, or a Reappearance of the star from behind the lunar limb. All events listed take place at the dark limb. Disappearances occur before Full Moon when the Moon's eastern limb is dark. Reappearances occur after Full Moon when the Moon's western limb is dark.
% :
Percentage of the moon illuminated; "+" indicates waxing and "-" waning. E indicates a lunar eclipse.
Auck/Well/Chch/Dudn :
Time of the occultation at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, expressed in hours and decimal minutes of Universal Time. Because the actual time of an event depends very much on the observer's physical location, times given are approximate and may vary by a minute or two across a distance of several tens of kilometres. "No Occult" indicates that no occultation will be visible from that site. "Below Hor" indicates that the moon is below the horizon at the time of the occultation. "Daylight" indicates that the sun is above the horizon at the time of the occultation. "Graze" indicates that there is a grazing occultation close to the position and occultation times will vary dramatically over small distances or may not happen at all. Green text indicates that the event occurs at an altitude less than 15 degrees. Red text indicates that the event occurs with the sun less than 10 degrees below the horizon. Events can have both conditions current.
CA :
Cusp Angle, or angle around the moon's limb at which the occultation occurs. This is measured from the Northern or Southern cusp of the Moon in the direction of the unlit part of the Moon.
Notes :
For a double or triple star, the magnitudes of the components and the separation in seconds of arc.
For a variable star, the magnitudes between which the star varies.

[Timing Occultations][Reporting Occultations][Single Occultation Report Form]

Table of bright star occultations during 2008 for New Zealand

Note: in general events occur while the Sun is set and at the unlit limb of the Moon. However 2008 includes a number of occultations of Antares, for these predictions of both disappearance and reappearance are given, one of which will be at the bright limb. One of them is also a day time event.
There is also an occultation of Mars which occurs during day time. Both disappearance and reappearance of the planet is noted, although it is likely to be a difficult event.
