BRIGHT STARS OCCULTED BY THE MOON:
NEW ZEALAND - 2022
EXPLANATION OF THE TABLE
- Date :
- Universal Time (UT). UT is effectively equivalent to Greenwich Mean Time. In New Zealand, add 12 hours to UT to get NZ Standard Time,
or add 13 hours to get NZ Daylight Time.
- ZC :
- Star number in Robertson's Zodiacal Catalog, unless shown as S or X.
- Mag :
- Star Magnitude.
- Ev :
- Event, either a Disappearance of the star behind the edge of the Moon, or a Reappearance of the star from behind the lunar limb.
All events listed with a positive cusp angle take place at the dark limb. All events listed with a negative cusp angle take place at the
bright limb (only the brightest stars or planets will be shown for bright limb events).
Disappearances occur before Full Moon when the Moon's eastern limb is dark. Reappearances occur after Full Moon when the Moon's western
limb is dark.
- %lit :
- Percentage of the moon illuminated; "+" indicates waxing and "-" waning. E indicates a lunar eclipse with the number representing the amount of
moon outside the umbra.
- Auck/Well/Chch/Dudn :
- Time of the occultation at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, expressed in hours and decimal minutes
of Universal Time. Because the actual time of an event depends very much on the observer's physical location, times given are approximate and
may vary by a minute or two across a distance of several tens of kilometres. "No Event" indicates that no occultation will be visible from
that site.
Green text indicates that the event occurs at an altitude less than 15 degrees.
Red text indicates that the event occurs with the sun less than 10 degrees below the horizon.
Magenta indicates that both conditions are current.
- CA :
- Cusp Angle, or angle around the moon's limb at which the occultation occurs. This is measured from the
Northern or Southern cusp of the Moon in the direction of the unlit part of the Moon. If a lunar eclipse is in progress,
CA gives the % distance from the centre of the umbra, and is followed by a 'U'. Values up to 103% are possible.
Where an event occurs more than 103% of the umbral radius the usual Cusp Angle value is displayed.
- Notes :
- For a double or triple star, the magnitudes of the components and the separation in seconds of arc.
For a variable star, the magnitudes between which the star varies.
