It’s a NEW WEBSITE!

Yes, in fact hell has frozen over! TTOA has had quite a reputation for having a website that looked like it was from the 1990’s … because it was. Graham Blow launched the first website for the RASNZ Occultation Section back in 1998 and then it fell to me to keep it up to date. That was fine so long as it was putting together basic HTML text pages with a few pictures and links. But things have moved on a bit in the intervening 28 years.

So it is time to give the website at least a bit more of a modern a feeling. I’ve taken the plunge into WordPress and to be honest, it’s not going that well … as evidence by how long it has taken for me to get this thing live. And it is very likely that as I get better at this, the website might shift and change a bit more along the way.

The refresh has been an opportunity to revamp a lot of the content as the role of websites for occultation observers has morphed a little over the years. For a start, prediction distribution is not so much a priority with platforms like OccultWatcher now filling that role. Instead, collation of results, training materials and references and information about meetings is now more the flavour. And now doubt, with time, these emphases will change again. Not all of this will be there from day 1 but drop by from time to time to see what’s changed.

This Blog is something new. The idea is that there will be short (and perhaps not so short) items dropped here to highlight things of interest. Think like meeting announcements, notable results, publication announcements, high profile observing projects etc. And I would very much welcome contributions to add to this blog. Feel free to write me an email at director@occultations.org.nz

The old website hasn’t gone. Follow the link on the top navigation bar to go back to view old results and predictions and to reminisce.

Thanks,

Steve Kerr.
