Over time, we are hoping to build a library of useful documents and videos to guide observers to get the best results. If you have any suggestions or materials to share, please contact the Director on director@occultations.org.nz
Observing Occultations Using Video: A Beginner’s Guide
Over the period from 2013 to 2015, the RASNZ Occultation Section developed a handbook on video occultation observing based on analogue video systems and the software available at the time. This document was pulled together by Jacqui Milner with contributions from across the organisation. While aspects of this are out of date today, much of the basics are still the same and will be useful for beginner observers. In time, we intend to replace most of this content with materials on this page. Here is a link to the OBSERVING OCCULTATIONS USING VIDEO: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE.
How to Identify Asteroid Occultation Predictions in OccultWatcher Cloud using the Search Function
On 8 November 2025, TTOA held a Zoom meeting focused on changes in OccultWatcher Cloud functionality that allow logged in users to generate personalized asteroid occultation predictions. The structure was quite informal but thanks to Hristo Pavlov and Dave Gault for the presentation and insights. This meeting was motivated by Dave Gault’s intention to discontinue the Trans-Tasman feed to OccultWatcher on account of the increased time effort involved in maintaining it. The meeting was recorded and is shared through You-Tube. Duration: 1:33:55.
